The College Hackathon

The word “hack” is used to describe how multiple technologies can be used together in a new and innovative way. Teams of up to four people spend the weekend working on innovative software and hardware solutions to real-world problems. Prizes are awarded at the end. These projects range in platform and application, including elements of web development, mobile applications, hardware (e.g. drones), and more. They also span different sectors, from healthcare to fintech. However, many times the most important aspect of a hackathon are the community it generates and the new skills that hackers walk away with.

The Application Process

Each year, PennApps receives thousands of qualified applications. Unfortunately, we can only accept a limited number of participants. To ensure fairness, we ask everyone to share a bit about themselves, so we can invite those who have shown interest and skill.

We don't expect everyone to have been to a hackathon before. In fact, we LOVE first-time hackers, having been there ourselves! Regardless of where your skills are at now, just bring your passion about building something awesome and learning something new. We aim to accept a diverse mix of applicants from various backgrounds. Simply showcase your past work, share why you want to attend PennApps, and we will do our best to bring you here!

Ready to apply? Head over to apply.pennapps.com. Applications are now OPEN!

Note you must be a high school or undergraduate student in the US or abroad to apply. Questions? Email us at [email protected]

P.S.: If you identify as underrepresented in tech or come from an underresourced background, please also check out the Diversity Fellows program. Simply select the checkbox on the application, fill out two additional essays, and become eligible for full travel/lodging coverage + exclusive event programming!

Penn students: register with your Penn email when applying.
